Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to dig up a fossil ,hold it in your hand,and realize that you are the only human that has ever seen it? It can be quite an exciting experience .Back In Time Expeditions will guide and assist you in recovering your own piece of the past fossil as well as to provide you with an educational expierience into Florida's ancient fossil past,and the animals that once roamed here thousands or millions of years ago.
We conduct our expeditions in the Peace River,located in southwest Florida,between Wauchula and Arcadia,( DeSoto , Hardee and Polk Counties)and are considered walk in trips,in which you can park your car and have a short walk to the river.Since you will be in the river,wear clothes that can get wet,shorts or swim suit.Old tennis shoes with socks. The socks will help keep the sand out of your shoes and you will probably feel more comfortable.Sandals and flip flops are not recommended. A hat and sunscreen is also sugessted.A t-shirt helps if you do not want to get suburned on your back and shoulders.
Bring your lunch and drinks in a small cooler,no alcoholic beverages are allowed. Sometimes water is more quenching then soft drinks.We leave our fossiling sites as clean if not cleaner then what we found them,so be prepared to carry your trash back in a bag or in your cooler when your done with your lunch or drinks,NO TRASH in the river,or to be left behind.
Returning back at the hotel,after our expedition,you are invited to our Back In Time Barbeque,for a good relaxing time,and a chance to share your finds with others ,talk fossils,florida fossil history or whatever you like.
We also have a special surprise gift for everyone,during or after the barbeque.
If you are staying with us at the hotel,even though they allow pets,we ask that you do not bring them on the fossil hunt.
Our expedition fossil hunts depend on river water levels at the time of your request. Sometimes the river is at a higher level then other times making it more difficult or impossible to fossil hunt,but this happens on rare occaision,but it does happen.
If we get into at least half the allotted fossiling time,then get rained out,your money cannot be refunded. If we get a bad storm and have to call you and cancel,then we will do our best to issue a refund or will be happy to schedule you for another trip, at a discount rate.
Even though our trips are safe,they are still considered wilderness trips and come with a certain amount of risk ,therefore we ask that you(click here) and print and sign our liabilty release form,bringing it with you . If you forget to do this ,we will have forms on premise for you to sign before you can go on the fossil expedition.
The one creature that you can count on being on the hunt ,and will not hesitate to bite you is the fire ant. Our guides will do their best to provide you with information on how to avoid them. That is one reason we ask you to wear old tennis shoes with socks,it helps with the fire ants on the ankles,and also helps keep sand and gravel out of your shoes.

Our expirienced staff will take you on a personalized expedition to sites that are known to contain fossils of the above mentioned animals,where you will be shown where and
how to dig and sift with the equipment that will be provided for you,along with identifying and dating your fossil finds.We often get asked if we find Megalodon teeth,the answer is yes,however smaller ones are more common.Out of all of our expeditions,we have never returned without finding any sharks teeth or fossils of many species.Please refer to our FAQ'S page for more info.
